SRA recruiting two new Board members

We have launched a campaign to recruit two new solicitor members to our Board.
Those interested in the positions should have a track record of achievement in complex organisations, the ability to think strategically and previous experience of working with a board or evidence of the ability to do so. To further enhance the range of expertise represented on our board, we are particularly interested in individuals with experience in at least one of the following areas:
- senior management in a City or other large law firm
- providing legal services in Wales
- providing legal services through less traditional business models, such as an ABS or digital services provider
We are committed to making sure our Board is as diverse as possible so that the members reflect the communities that solicitors serve and the increasing diversity of the profession itself.

If you have the right experience, we want to hear from you whatever your background; we welcome candidates who can bring real diversity to our thinking, whether that is diversity of race, of gender, or of thought and culture.
‘We have an exciting programme of work at the SRA, whether it is about making the Solicitors Qualifying Examination a reality, bedding in our wider reforms, or supporting the sector to make the most of technology. Joining the Board will give you the opportunity to be contribute to this work directly.’
The role of the Board is to oversee its work regulating more than 158,000 practising solicitors and 10,000 firms across England and Wales. Board member responsibilities include setting our strategic direction, making sure that issues are explored from a range of viewpoints and holding the organisation to account for its performance.
As we continue to deliver our Corporate Strategy, we will be building on our major reform programme - already having transformed the way solicitors qualify - ensuring we and the sector can respond effectively to change and working to maximise the benefits innovation and technology can bring for consumers and law firms.

The new Board members will take up their positions in January and September 2022.
Existing solicitor members Geoff Nicholas and Barry Matthews will be leaving the Board at the end of 2021 after six years, with lay Board member Peter Higson stepping down in January, and solicitor member Tony Williams’ term due to expire at the end of August 2022. Recruiting two new solicitor members means that the Board will have a total of nine members.
